Assistant men's wrestling coach Doyle Trout recently attended the National Wrestling Coaches (NWCA) Association Leadership Academy in Florida where he collaborated with some of the top wrestling coaches in the country.

Trout, entering his third season at Ozarks, was among the rising coaches selected to attend the all-encompassing training. Trout was also able to attend the NWCA Coaches Convention following the academy.

"I enjoyed learning about fundraising, recruiting, and retention," said Trout. "I appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with the best head and assistant coaches in the country. I was able to connect and network during the academy and convention."

Trout believes he grew as a coach.

"I felt like I left with an overall confidence boost," he said. "I can walk away knowing I am a better coach. I feel like the future student-athletes I encounter will be impacted from my academy experience. I want to thank NWCA and all of their hard work. Lastly, I want to thank the University and coaches LeRoy Gardner and Vinny Barber for the opportunity."

Trout wrestled at University of Wyoming and has helped Ozarks produce numerous nationally-ranked wrestlers and All-Conference and Academic All-Conference performers during his tenure.

The NWCA, through a collaborative effort with internationally renowned coaching development expert, Dr. Dan Gould at Michigan State University, has constructed a gold standard leadership program to help coaches accomplish the following: Strengthen their CEO skills, strengthen the alignment of wrestling programs with educational values, and substantially improve the recruitment and retention of wrestlers in the scholastic environment.

Shortly after winning his fourth high school state title in Nebraska, Trout was in a nearly fatal car accident where he lost one of his legs. Flowrestling featured Trout's story in a video "Doyle Trout – Still Standing". The inspirational feature video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XpYpL8VCp4
