UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS ATHLETICS: Softball Team, Student-Athletes Earn NFCA Academic Awards

The softball program received the team academic award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and ten players made the NFCA Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced by the association this week.

The association announced its 2021-2022 NFCA/Easton All-American Team award winners with Ozarks posting a 3.51 team GPA, placing the program 56th among NCAA III institutions.

The list of individual award winners on the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team included Blaise English, a sophomore biology major from Clarksville; Allyson Fultz, a sophomore biology major from Rogers; Sierra Jasna, a senior biology major from Sallisaw, Okla.; Mackenzie Lucio, a freshman health science major from Bedford, Texas; Macy Pelts, a junior biology major from Lamar; Reese Ramirez, a sophomore biology major from Cedar Park, Texas; Rayli Ruby, a sophomore biology major from Granbury, Texas; Winnie Sanchez, a freshman music major from Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; Codi Shannon, a junior accounting/business administration major from Ozark; and Sarah Todd, a junior English major from Mayflower.

To receive the Scholar-Athlete All-American honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade point average from the previous academic year.

NCAA Division III led the way with 2,227 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2021-22.

Under head coach Denise Godwin, the Eagles had 13 players on the American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference Team in the spring.
