Subiaco Abbey – Subiaco issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
In the midst of all that is happening in the world, it is important to give thanks for the small things each day. We monks are immensely thankful for our skilled maintenance team that have been working today, in the midst of freezing rain and sleet, to keep our elevator in service. The water had started to fill the elevator pit and the pump got overwhelmed. Sam, James, Chris, and Trey jumped into action. Having a team trained as electricians and plumbers is a blessing to us monks because many of our monks are elderly, can't use the stairs, and need the elevator for access especially for our Health Center. We used to have two elevators for just such circumstances, but the cost of repairing the old one was simply too much. So, we depend on the one we have at the moment. Pictured here are Trey and Chris down in the water, with Sam and James behind the monk photographer. The dastardly pump is now being examined to see what we need to repair or replace so the pit does not flood again. Monastic thanks to our maintenance team!!!! UIOGD!
