THE BASICS

Abilene, Texas – The Eagles forced a turnover with just seconds to go to gain the last possession and seal a 77-74 win over McMurry University Saturday. The final minute of the game saw key turnovers, missed free throws, clutch shots and a technical foul in a wild ending. With the Eagles leading 75-72, McMurry had an opportunity to tie the game with seven seconds left but couldn't make the free throw on a traditional three-point play. Seconds later Dillon Cheater went to the free throw line and sank both of his attempts to all but secure the contest. The Warhawks then turned the ball over on its final possession. The Eagles had a big afternoon from the three-point line hitting 14-of-29 (48%) to push themselves to its first conference win of the young season. Five different players made three-pointers in the game. Cheater drilled four from beyond the arc to score 14 points. Nix led the team with 16 points.
