St. Joseph Catholic School Church issued the following announcement on Aug. 24.

(Father Alex is on the right with three of his seminary classmates.)

I began priestly ministry at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School on June 14th, 2021. I am the associate pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the sacramental minister of the community of St. Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church in Lincoln, AR. This is my first assignment as a newly ordained priest!

I chose to be a priest because of the calling to be the hands and feet of Christ when I was in high school. When I was young, I enjoyed running track, running cross country, and playing high school football. But when I was in high school, I also loved serving others, being involved in the parish, leading my close friends and family to Christ especially through youth ministry from the local parish and diocesan level. I also loved being involved in Breaking Open the Word with others and leading fellow friends in FCA (Fellow Christian Athletes) to Christ. But deep down I felt called to do more. In high school, I wanted to run track in college, but I felt the call to serve and discern to be a priest for God and His people. I wanted to be a change and servant to the Church. Growing up the inspiration of the parish priests that were in my life, the ministers at my local parish-St. Jude’s the Apostle, and my family were a great inspiration. To me, being a priest is truly about being in the person of Christ. Meaning, leading others to the Eucharist, the sacraments, and the sharing the Word of God to all people.

To me, the mission of St. Joseph Catholic School is to lead our students, teachers, and families towards a relationship with God. The Catholic education the students receive may invite them to remember they have a relationship with God and a call to live as an intentional disciple sharing the light of Christ if it is with the poor/ the outcast, the elderly, their families, and anyone whom they may encounter.

My other activities at St. Joseph are visiting the classes and the teachers of St. Joseph Catholic School throughout the school year whether that be for the following: direction, the sacraments, daily mass, theology class, youth ministry, eating lunch with the students, and being present in cheering on our Panthers in the various sports and extracurricular activities.

When I am not at school, my favorite hobbies are golf (It is a journey of patience and mercy), disc golf, reading (Favorites: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Crime and Punishment, Along Way from Chicago and Fair Weather by Richard Peck), watching college sports! Go Hawgs! But seriously, go Irish!

My favorite Scripture verse is “whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world, is our faith.” (1 John 5:4)
