University of the Ozarks Athletics issued the following announcement on July 12.
Logan Valestin has added another academic award to his career as he won the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, the league office announced Monday (July 12).
The senior goalkeeper from Bryant, Ark., was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Team and earned the university's ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor following the Eagles' championship season. Valestin produced an outstanding year in goal earning ASC Goalkeeper of the Year and All-ASC First Team honors. Valestin ranked fourth in the ASC in goals against average (0.94) while collecting 22 saves in 12 starts. Valestin posted five wins and recorded three shutouts. At Ozarks, he ranks fourth in career saves (261), third in shutouts (16), third in wins (29), third in goals against average (1.18) and third in minutes played (5938). During his career, he was ASC Player of the Week and a member of the ASC All-Tournament Team. A Biology major, he is a three-time member of the ASC All-Academic Team and was on the President's List and Dean's List. He plans to attend University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and pursue a career as a trauma surgeon and emergency medicine physician. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate. Valestin had a 3.71 GPA in Biology.
